Yes.  First of all, LO has been trying hard to remove Java dependency.
To support *embedded* database without Java, they chose Firebird as a
replacement.

I enabled it when I updated the LO port to 5.0 (r397662).  However, I
had no choice but to disable it later (r441257) because LO 5.3 updated
it to FB 3.0 API and it was (and still is) unavailable in our ports
tree.  Now Java-based HSQLDB is deprecated from LO 6.1.

We should be re-adding FB support rather than enabling Java.
