If you would paste the error message that X displays on the standard
output when it crashes, it might help us out a bit.
To configure X, the tool that works best for me is xf86config, but you
might also try xf86cfg or 'X -configure' but YMMV.
wrt to your emails, please could you set your editor to wrap at 64
characters.
