You should enable syslog facility. As for web, it is more complex and may
require other developers assistance. With time it definitly can be solved but
first we need to ensure that root of problems is correctly determined, so
testing is needed first.

Also, you'll better compile mpd with debugging symbols enabled:

make WITH_DEBUG=yes clean all deinstall install

And if hang occurs again, use "killall -QUIT mpd" to generate crashdump to
analyze.
