One other idea that's a little shorter on multiple values:

"this value can only be of the set 1, 2, 4 or 8 (default 2)."

--> "this value can only be of the set 1, 2 (default), 4 or 8."

These are subjective.  For example, I prefer "goodinger wordiness."
