It's FreeBSD's behavior
root at freetest# route add 10.0.0.0/30 192.168.1.1
add net 10.0.0.0: gateway 192.168.1.1
root at freetest# ifconfig vlan100 10.0.0.1/30
ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCAIFADDR): File exists
