Maximum tun devices

Hi,

	I am using FreeBSD 4.9 as PPPoE Concentrator. This system has to server 500+ 
pppoe clients. Initially there were only four tun devices in the system. I 
added more tun devices. However I could not add more than 255 tunnel devices.

mknod /dev/tun256 c 52 256
mknod: major or minor number too large

Do I need to add support for more than 255 tun devices in kernel or do I need 
to use some other major number for tunnels higher than 255 ?
Please suggest.
