How to capture audio with FreeBSD?

I have tried this, but the resulting file.wav is only 0 bytes after several seconds. So this does not appear to work either. Control-T reveals the process is stuck in 'pcmrdv' state. 

I am also curious how it works with multiple input devices; does BSD know what device to point to when accessing /dev/dsp?
