I can confirm this bug in FreeBSD 10. I had to to create sim-links for
/usr/local/lib/libsmbclient.a, /usr/local/lib/libsmbclient.so, &
/usr/local/lib/libsmbclient.so.0 in /usr/lib in order to compile VLC.
