VLC enables to chose the output module and the device :). Default is  
/dev/dsp, so I'll test /dev/dsp* [* = 0 to 8] later today, I have no time  
to do it right now.

There's one not serious issue. It does ignore the font size for Xfce4.  
Fonts are much to small for me.
