Thanks Boris :-) I got some sound working after man 4 sound & fixed some
mistakes
Modules not matching kernel,
Wrong driver in loader.conf,
These still fail:
xcdplayer # Fails from CDs in DVD drive
cdcontrol -f /dev/acd0 play 1 # Fails
But these work:
ksmp3play file_from_disc.mp3 # Plays OK from hard disc
vlc /cdrom # Plays OK from DVD
Anyone got a clue why ?
( The 2 identical <HL-DT-STDVD-RAM GH22NP20/1.02> are marked in
PDF manual re sound 4 pin connector: "This connector is not
supported" but as vlc plays sound via IDE cable .... ? )
I tried all 3 of sysctl hw.snd.default_unit=[0-2]
Only 0 seemed to produce sound
xcdplayer does play same music CD on abother DVD dribe on another box:
8.0 amd64 <Pioneer DVD-ROM ATAPIModel DVD-116 0109/E1.09>
though that other DVD drive has an audio cable connected.
Cheers,
Julian
