Hello, just want to give some feedback about this card in
6.2-STABLE/i386 and see if there's anything else I need to know.
1. With the binary kernel modules downloaded from here:
http://people.freebsd.org/~ariff/BINARY_MODULES/
It gets detected as:
pcm0: <Envy24HT audio (Generic)> port 0xb800-0xb81f,0xb400-0xb47f irq 22
at device 1.0 on pci2
pcm0: system configuration
SubVendorID: 0x1412, SubDeviceID: 0x1724
XIN2 Clock Source: 24.576MHz(96kHz*256)
MPU-401 UART(s) #: not implemented
ADC #: 1
DAC #: 3
Multi-track converter type: AC'97(SDATA_OUT:packed)
S/PDIF(IN/OUT): 0/1 ID# 0x00
GPIO(mask/dir/state): 0xff/0xff/0xff
No sound comes out at all (spdif or line-out) when trying to play
anything at all.
2. With kernel module source downloaded from here:
http://envy24.svobodno.com/driver/av710/old/
It detects as:
pcm0: <Envy24HT-S audio(Chaintech AV710)> port
0xb800-0xb81f,0xb400-0xb47f irq 22 at device 1.0 on pci2
pcm0: system configuration
SubVendorID: 0x1412, SubDeviceID: 0x1724
XIN2 Clock Source: 24.576MHz(96kHz*256)
MPU-401 UART(s) #: not implemented
ADC #: 1
DAC #: 3
Multi-track converter type: I2S(with volume, 192KHz support, 24bit
resolution, ID#0x4)
S/PDIF(IN/OUT): 0/1 ID# 0x00
GPIO(mask/dir/state): 0xff0000/0xff0000/0xff0000
This works very well for all 16 bit audio, tested up to 96Khz!
However when trying to use 24 or 32 bit mode, the audio has several
"clicks" per second constantly when the output appears to reset to
0x0000 momentarily. I have tested with several programs (mplayer,
madplay, waveplay, etc) with the same results.
(Nb. These cards are very cheap and appear to have an excellent SPDIF
output. I appreciate the work that has been done on these drivers so
far and I would be happy to talk about donate one to anyone who wants to
have a crack at fixing these problems).
