USB Problem on a HP Compaq DC7600

Did you edit your fstab file? Like
/dev/ugen0 /mnt msdosfs rw, noauto 0 0
I hope you are also trying to do all this from root account so that we
eliminate possibility that something is wrong with
permissions.
