igain is input-, ogain is output amplification.

 I've got an AWE64 card as well, and they work here.  

 For testing igain, set recording source to cd, play an
audio-CD and record it, for example with wavrec (from the
wavplay port).  Crank up the igain mixer and the recording
should become louder.

 Same with ogain, just that it works on the line out and
speaker connectors.
