mplayer; ATI grafic card; -vo / -vop

dear list

yesterday i installt mplayer on my notebook (acer Travelmate 603TER)
unfortunately mplayer tells me when envoked with an *.avi file that it cannot init
-vo / -vop

i don't understand a lot multimedia or X therefore; might someone help me
please by telling me how to solve the problem or pointing me to some
(understandable) literature

my X log; the mplayer output and dmesg are attached
