Great, you might also want to have a look at

https://github.com/mono/mono/pull/1863

(filed as https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=200783)

which makes us free from /proc. This got merged into git master, maybe we
can ask Mono to backport this to 4.0.3 as well.

There is also https://github.com/mono/mono/pull/1860 to fix mono on systems
without $TZ set.

There is also some work in progress in https://github.com/mono/mono/pull/1882
to improve checks against iconv, maybe we could even make it to use base system
iconv.
