IBM T41 docking station and X

I have an IBM T41 with a docking station, just installed 5.3-BETA5 on it.

X is using the "radeon" driver at 1024x768 (hardware resolution of the LCD),
which works fine.

However, when starting X with the laptop in the docking station, the CRT
display come up in low resolution (looks like 640x480), in a scrollable window
onto a larger bitmap area.

Anybody seen this?  Thanks.
