More news, booted into Linux, and after I install teh apropriate module.
this machine wil "sort of" play an MP3. It "stutters" _a lot_. I'm
suspecting a BIOS issues based upon this page:

http://larve.net/people/hugo/2002/12/evo410

Unfortunately, it will be Monday before I can update the BIOS, as the
downloadable update only runs under windows (where t creates a boot update
disk, tell me why the need windows for this ?). I have no M$ based
machines, and I will have to wait to acces one at work (no not mine,
somebody elses).

Unlesss some kind soul wants to download it, and mail me the floppy image
it creates?
