Trouble with dynamic executables

Is there a plan to fix? Oleksander provided me a patch which does seem to work, but our local toolchain guy thinks the patch pretty much just spackles over the real problem, rather than fixing it. It's nice to have a root cause.

Apparently I have been living in the past. Looks like the the binutils
update(r218822)  caused this breakage.
