Software/Hardware Quality Assurance Engineer

Location – San Bruno, California

Description:
Department Overview:
Cisco IronPort, a part of Cisco’s Security Technologies Business Unit
(STBU), email and web security appliances protect organizations of all sizes
against spam, viruses, malware and other Internet threats – combining
powerful performance with preventive and reactive security measures that are
easy to deploy and manage. IronPort delivers industry-changing, next
generation Web Security, Email Security, and device management and reporting
solutions by enabling unprecedented visibility and control of applications
and content – by user, not just IP address.
About the team
Common Platform Technologies (CPT) is a cross functional group that gets to
work on all of Cisco IronPort's products (Email Security Appliance(ESA),
Security Management Appliance (SMA), Web Security Appliance (WSA)). CPT is
responsible for the substrate of the Cisco IronPort product line. We do
common hardware, low-level device drivers, user interface APIs, operating
system architecture for AsyncOS, and all of the meaty components at the
heart of Cisco IronPort's products. CPT is a fast-moving organization that
requires a diverse set of skills. We live and breathe FreeBSD, python, and
various other technologies. Technology is part of our name!
Releasing on a very rapid cadence, CPT QA spends very little time validating
user interfaces or rerunning tests on different platforms. Instead, we have
new hardware and complex backend infrastructure systems that require an
ability to grasp challenging abstract concepts and form strategies to
efficiently qualify and understand these products.

Technology: FreeBSD, Python, Embedded OS, BIOS, Firmwares, OS kernel
drivers, NFS, Samba, DNS, Apache, TCP/IP, HTTP, SMTP, SSH, IPv6p,
virtualization
