GreatSchools.net is a nonprofit, online guide to K-12 schools. Based in
downtown San Francisco, we are a small Internet corporation funded by
philanthropists, corporations and foundations. Our mission is to provide
parents with the information they need to choose schools, support their
children's education and advocate for educational excellence.

We are seeking a FreeBSD systems administrator for (approximately)
half-time work, including regular weekly meetings, 10 days per month of
on-call duty, and some office hours.

This position requires extensive knowledge of BSD unix and at least three
years experience providing on-call support of unix servers and IP
networks. It also requires the abilities to communicate well and to work
closely with the rest of the GreatSchools.net engineering team in
maintaining a Web site that is user-friendly and highly available.

Some details of scheduling and duties are negotiable. Additional job
duties might include systems programming in C, occasional application
programming in Perl, Apache module development, or ongoing design of
network architecture. Candidates should possess additional expertise in
one or more of the following: Apache 2.0; mod_perl; server load balancing;
Athena-style networking (Kerberos, AFS or Coda, Hesiod); SNMP network
monitoring; revision control and release management; Web site testing and
QA; GIS; Linux; Solaris.

Desired qualifications also include an interest in education, previous IT
experience in an educational or nonprofit setting, and a commitment to the
GreatSchools.net mission of helping parents make better decisions about
schools. Diversity is welcomed.

To apply, please send resume and cover letter to jobs at GreatSchools.net
