JDK1.4.2 jvmstat was /tmp/hsperfdata_$USER/$PID ?

I'll try again - these files appear to be created by java processes
under 1.4.2. I _believe_ they are jvmstat related. Can anyone (a)
confirm and (b) let me know if there's a way to prevent their creation?
