Error compiling sendmail

Hi, when I try to compile sendmail I get this:

    /usr/libexec/ld-elf.so.1: Shared object "libgdbm.so.2" not found

I have the configuration files ld.so.conf and ld-elf.so.conf with the 
location of gdbm library and I also run ldconfig -auot and ldconfig -elf 
for the hints files but still don`t work.

Any ideas?
