 Sorry about the top post in my reply. I'm trying to get out of that nasty

  It looks like the compilation worked.

    Do you have this in line in your sendmail.mc file?

   define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `PLAIN CRAM-MD5 DIGEST-MD5 LOGIN')dnl
