This is the correct CD. It is a livefs and on a livefs cd you have the
option of doing a net install or dropping to the Fixit prompt via the menus.

I am pretty sure you were expecting this:
FreeBSD-8.1-RELEASE-i386-disc1.iso

Not needed. This is the expected use for these images.
