Gftp - your binary, as well as the ports compile, of gftp 2.0.18 (latest as of today Sep 14/06) will not save any proxy settings under "FTP" options.  Downloading the source directly from the author and ./configue, make install works as expected.  It looks as if (a) you have modified the source or (b) my use of linux compatibilty compliation has some effect.
