These are very often caused by a bad IDE cable, so I would try to
replace the cable.

At one point I have had a system running for about half a year which got
these errors, but the system worked flawlesly...

Of course it shouldn't be needed, but I would also try to switch to the
other channel, and if it works it's probably not wort wasting to much
more time on.
