Typhoon Optical Mouse problems

As far as I can see, it is a plain PS/2 mouse (i.e. it has a PS/2
connector), although this model is also sold as a USB mouse.

I might try using a COM port adapter. But in the case I wanted to use the
PS/2 port, where should I start looking to make this device work?
