Yes. We need to write microbenchmarks and do more careful analysis to
figure out where and why things have grown. Maybe a mock daemon and
application (single and multithreaded) would be a good start?

There are some example programs in the open_posix_testsuite (see LTP)
that might be good for at least getting non-daemon apps that use
pthreads that can be used for instrumenting where and why things have
changed.
