building images for running from flash

I am aware of it, but it does not cover what I need for either
questions, except for possibly the make part.

From the looks of it, I assume I can override what make.conf is used
using __MAKE_CONF?

Also any thing to be aware of when using DESTDIR with make kernel?
Just tried it here and it did not work. It just installed over my
current one.
