The simple "exec dbus-launch ..." within .xinitrc did not succeed in
getting all of Gnome to work right.  Given Mezz's comment, I guess I'll
get used to gdm.  Perhaps it now will not live up to its obvious acronym
(not the one the Gnome people intend).
