Which URL are you referring to? Works fine here:

=> freetype-2.3.5.tar.bz2 doesn't seem to exist in
/usr/ports/distfiles/.
=> Attempting to fetch from
http://heanet.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/freetype/.
freetype-2.3.5.tar.bz2                        100% of 1249 kB  261 kBps
=> MD5 Checksum OK for freetype-2.3.5.tar.bz2.
