 I`ve asked about the same problem on questions@ and got pointed to a thread 
 http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-x11/2007-June/004649.html on x11 
 relating to this issue. From the thread it seems to be a problem of the 
 x11/libX11 port, not gimp. There is a patch in that email for the port, I 
 haven`t tried that yet. I will report back when I test it.
