a follow up to "user haldaemon does not exist" now
that I have RC2 installed. I have the same problem as
before.
I installed from 6.2-RC2-i386-disc1.iso the x-user
distribution... once this was complete I logged in as
non-root user, fired up x, su'd in terminal and
installed from /usr/sbin/sysinstall -
"6.2-RC2-i386-disc2.iso" the gnome2-2.16.1_2 pkg which
in turm automatically checked dependencies. I did not
check any other pkg's.
installation of gnome completed without any errors.
so same "user haldaemon does not exist" after
ammending /etc/rc.conf and rebooting.
to fix I:
cd /usr/ports/sys/hal
make deinstall
make install
and I was greeted with :
Added group "haldaemon".
Added user "haldaemon".
so hal is working fine, for me this seems to be a
problem with not creating haldaemon group/user when
gnome is installed from /usr/sbin/sysinstall
