The problem is that 5.X does not support sending ATA ioctls through
child devices.  They must be sent through the ATA parent device.  I can
probably fix this, but without a working 5.X machine on which to do
testing, it will be very difficult.  I don't want to go down another
wrong, untested path.

Anyone out there have a 5.X machine on which I can get root temporarily?
