notify-send with gnome 2.14

Hi

Is notify-send not working with gnome 2.14? (FreeBSD 6-Stable)

I tried notfiy-send -u low "test message" but the notification field in
my taskbar didn't pop up :(

I don't see any debug options. I don't know if this has ever worked. I
just know this feature from linux gnome screenhots ;) It would be nice
to have this in rhythmbox which should support it. Do I need to start
something? I already use dbus session.
