Not sure why you're seeing this problem.  You might try creating an
/etc/libmap.conf with:

libpthread.so.1         libc_r.so.5
libpthread.so           libc_r.so

And see what happens.  In any event, you'll need to do that in order to
make the gdb backtrace useful.
