did portupgrade -fR gnome2 after cleaning up dependencies.

all works, except it is *very* slow to start, minutes to get
the pretty beastie, more minutes to get the session's xterms,
more minutes to get the panel, ...  i wonder if i will ever
get a background.

while waiting for panel to start, top is not particularly interesting

i have the hostname in /etc/hosts with 127.0.0.1

i removed .gnome/session
