I can confirm that native jdk 1.4.1 works just fine. This unfortunately
isn't just the jre but a full install of jdk 1.4.1.

install java/jdk14

Then link 

libjavaplugin_oji.so ->
/usr/local/jdk1.4.1/jre/plugin/i386/ns600/libjavaplugin_oji.so
