gnometerminal CPU load?

I've started to use the 2.3 gnome beta, and the issue is MUCH improved. 
Gnometerminal uses amounts of CPU comparable with xterm now, and feels 
much less sluggish.

XFree86 still eats up a sizable chunk of the cycles during heavy 
terminal activity. This seems to be due to using a TrueType font and/or 
smoothing - if I switch to a bitmap font, this stops.
