gnome-terminal input weirdness with 5.1-RELEASE

Murray, I have done a limited test, and another user has done a more
through test.  Both were successful.

I get in to San Jose tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be able to find a machine
to install 5.1 on, and give it a thorough try myself.
