This bug is still very much open and the problem still exists in 11.1-p10.
Afaik nothing changed in 12-CURRENT that would fix the problem described in
this PR. I moved away from JBOD chassis with dual ported expanders, but I still
have access to one to test changes although I suspect that it can be simulated
with GEOM nop.
