Have you made sure that the partitions you create are zero'd, or have a
valid FS on them?  The firmware could be trying to parse the partitions
for FS's (flash cards are known to do this w/ FAT) but the firmware is
getting confused by the FS and getting lost in the weeds...

It could be that OpenBSD has a longer timeout period than FreeBSD...

How long are you seeing it wait before you see the messages?  Do you
have any custom kernel options, like HZ set?
