mirror for root partition

I'm not sure what do you mean by 'root partition'?
Please see 'problems with GEOM_MIRROR' thread where i'm describing my 
experience with trying to mirror whole disk where freebsd sits.
There are still some problems, but I hope they could be fixed soon.
