Please follow the instructions on 
<http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/vinum-root.html>, 
especially the disklabel part; these should work.  You should make sure 
that the first partition on the drive has an offset of several sectors 
from the beginning.
