Maybe your Firefox profile is corrupted. Can you reproduce with a fresh
profile?

  $ mkdir /tmp/test_profile
  $ firefox -profile /tmp/test_profile
  $ pkg upgrade
  $ firefox -profile /tmp/test_profile
