Next data point:

The sample script only produces an error on a newly formatted filesystem. If
newfs is performed followed by mksnap_ffs, then a reboot followed by fstyp,
there is no panic. The panic only occurs when the fstyp is executed after
mksnap_ffs but prior to a reboot.
