Yes, that is correct. In the gssapi, the call gss_export_name()
gets the plain ascii name out of the internal format.
You'll notice that the client_principal that was printing out
bogusly is a copy of the result of a gss_export_name() on cl_cname.
(So, assuming your principal names are printable ascii, as this example
appears to be, the result of a successful gss_export_name() will
be printable.)
Btw, I'm hoping that the second patch "fix race..." will fix this
problem, since I doubt that the Kerberos/gssapi libraries are returning
trash for the client principal name via gss_accept_sec_context().
