The patch in bug #236480 seems to resolve the issue for me, but it's unlikely
to be accepted into FreeBSD since the underlying bug originated with a feature
in ZFS on Linux (ZoL), which was brought into FreeBSD. However the proper fix
in ZoL was much more involved than the patch I mentioned. I'm not sure how to
proceed with getting this resolved. Unfortunately the likely way to get more
traction with this problem is to have more Postgres+ZFS users upgrade to 12.0
and report their findings.
