Is Intel ESB2-controller SAS-compatible?

Hello!

I got a really good deal on a SAS-drive. Will it work -- (assuming, I 
use a SAS-to-SATA connection adapter) with the Intel ESB2 controller I 
have on the motherboard? Reportedly, some controllers are actually 
"hybrid"...
