Couldn't hold off on restoring this system, but I saved a copy of /boot and
dd'd a copy of the boot block just in case someone wants to examine it at some
point.

I have other root-on-zfs installations that are less critical, so if this
happens again, we can use them for diagnosis.

For my mission-critical systems, until this issue is understood and resolved,
I'm installing to UFS2 and leaving most of the disk free for a post-install ZFS
pool setup, e.g.
